Road to El Dorado
Historical Setting: 1519 AD
When we first see Cortez in this movie he is preparing to sail for the New World from Spain. However, in real life Cortez sailed from Spain in 1511, with a man named Diego Velazquez. Cortez stayed in Cuba until he was appointed head of an expedition intended to establish a colony on the South American mainland by Velazquez. Once he landed in 1519 he established the colony, as ordered, and relied on Spanish medieval traditions to support him as he conquered the Aztec people, disobeying Velazquez's orders.
