The Chronicles of Narnia:
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
The classic C. S. Lewis novel is once again brought to life. We start off with the Germans dropping bombs on England during WWII. So hundreds of children are been shipped off to the countryside. Four kids, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy (William Moseley, Anna Popplewell, Skandar Keynes and Georgie Henley) are sent to live with a reclusive professor in a huge manor. During one of their games Lucy stumbles across an old wardrobe. Entering the wardrobe she finds fur coats and an entire different world.
In the new world of snow she finds a faun (James McAvoy), who invites her over for tea. It turns out that Mr. Tumnus is a spy for the evil White Witch, (Tilda Swinton) who is keeping the world of Narnia in endless winter (with no Christmas). He is supposed to give any human over to the queen, but he can't so he helps Lucy back through the wardrobe. Back in her world no time has passed and none of her siblings believe her. Later she journey's through the wardrobe again, this time Edmund follows. He comes face to face with the White Witch. She half bewitches him, half seduces him with Turkish Delight. He is to bring his siblings to her house, in return he will be prince of all Narnia. After he agrees, she leaves and Lucy appears right after. Still Peter and Susan refuse to believe her and Ed refuses to back her up, saying he was playing along with her imagination.
The the four of them end up in the wardrobe and in Narnia. Lucy brings them to Mr. Tumnus' house only to discover that he has been arrested for treason. Peter and Susan want to return home, but Lucy won't leave with out trying to help her friend. While the debate they meet a talking beaver. He tells them about Aslan (voiced by Liam Neeson) and the prophecy surrounding the four of them, proclaiming them the Kings and Queens of Narnia. Unbelieving they want to leave, only to discover that Edmund had vanished from the Beavers' house. Realizing that he's been taken in by the Queen they start to make their way to Aslan.
The White Witch sends her police force, a pack of wolves, after them. Ed is finally starting to realize that maybe the Queen is really as evil as everyone says she is. Finally Peter, Susan, Lucy and the Beavers meet up with Aslan and are able to free Edmund. Unfortunately according to the ancient laws all traitors are the Queen' property and are to be sacrificed. Unwilling to let one of the future kings die, Aslan sacrifices himself. The queen forgets that a willing sacrifice isn't the same as killing a traitor and Aslan is brought back to life.
So while Ed and Peter and their army fight the Queen and her army Aslan and the girls go to the queen's palace to free all the people she's imprisoned there to help in the battle. The battle ends with the queen defeated and the four children are crowned , then Aslan leaves.
Years later the four royals are hunting a stag when they stumble through a wardrobe and find themselves back in England where no time was passed at all.
I really don't know what to think about this movie. There are parts that I liked and parts that were boring. There were characters that where really likable and others that weren't. Like Susan for example. I didn't like her at all. She was very quick to blame Peter when something went wrong. When Ed vanished it's Peter's fault; when Lucy almost drowns, it's Peter's fault, and they should go home before anything else happens. Then half an hour later, she's all 'Glory of Narnia'. I don't get it.
I didn't like some of the CGI in the movie, but there were other parts that were really well done. I really did like the battle scene though. But I always like battle scenes.
I was expecting a lot form this movie and was a little disappointed after I watched it. I really want to find the 1988 one and watch that one again.
