Alone in the Dark

To be completely honest, I really don't understand this movie. There are things that happen, but I have no idea why or how they happen. This movie is based on a video game, and maybe I would've understood more if I had played the game, but I really doubt it. This movie was just that bad. As far as I can tell, Edward Carnby (Christian Slater) lived in an orphanage where twenty of the children vanished and were experimented on , but then reappeared the same night. Edward managed to get out and was electrocuted but didn't die...I don't know. Anyway twenty two years later Edward is on his way back from the coast of Chili with a Native American artifact for his girlfriend, Aline (Tara Reid), because she studies those people. I don't remember the name of the Native American, but they died out 10 000 years ago. Had writing (or hieroglyphics) even been invented back then? Anyway these people had found a way to open a door to a second world, one of darkness. And then the people vanished. Coincidence? Apparently I'm the only one who doesn't think so, because there's an entire branch of the military researching them. Edward had once been a part of the branch, but was fired and now works solo.

That's about as far as I got. The children became 'sleepers' that only became psycho killers when a certain artifact was found. Because Edward was electrocuted, the weird animal thing that was implanted into all of them was killed so he didn't turn evil. The mad scientist who experimented on them was the one trying to open the door to the other world...no one knows why. Then there are a whole bunch of creatures, giant man eating ones that are killed with sunlight that popped out of nowhere. If the Sleepers had turned into them I might have bought it, but I have no idea how these things got into our world. And there were hundreds of them.

Somehow the door was opened and all it took was a few high explosives to close it again. Then Tara Reid and Slater are the only two walking in a deserted city that was evacuated. I'd like to know how they managed that with only one abandoned car in the road and without a shred of trash on the ground. I think they were attacked right when the credits started but it was daytime, so none of the creatures could've been out.

See the movie made no sense what so ever. The only thing I liked in it was the cool fight scene in Edward's apartment when the power was cut, or something, anyways it was dark and the only lights were from the bullets. That was really cool. The other thing I liked was that there were women soldiers in the 713 or 731 or whatever it was called. As you can see this movie didn't really leave a lasting impression on me.

The rest of the movie was crap. Nothing made sense, there was no cohesiveness within the movie, Tara Reid could possibly be one of the worst actresses I've seen, and they tried to make me believe she was an archeologist. Maybe in porn...
