The Terminator

A cybernetic android (Arnold Schwarzenegger), and a futuristic soldier (Michael Biehn) travel back in time to 1984. The cyborg is trying to kill one Sarah Conner, (Linda Hamilton) mother of the future leader of the human resistance. The soldier, Kyle Reese, is trying to keep her alive so that John Conner can be born. Little does he know he was also sent back in time to become John Conner's father.

With two Sarah Conner's already killed, the third and final Sarah Conner in the phone book is sure someone is after her. And she'd be right. Reese finds her and soon  they are on the run from an unstoppable killing machine.

The Terminator is one of those movies I grew up watching (minus some parts my parents tactfully fast forwarded through), so I've always loved this movie. But as I sit and watch it now I realize it's not as good as I originally thought. Well, let me rephrase that. By today's standards it's not as good as I thought it was.

There are parts that are really bad with tacky acting and weird special effects. There are also continuity errors that should've been fixed. It's still one of my favorite movies thought. I mean, the action sequences are fun to watch and the plot is... well,  I don't really want to say believable -  because if you believe there are evil robots from the future after you then you have problems - but that's the only word I can think of. Even the romantic subplot is not annoying, and is vital to the storyline unlike other movies that have them plopped in an the end because the think it'll attract the female audience. There are flashbacks - which are annoying - but not as bad as they could have been.

I think the The Terminator movies are the only ones I can stand watching Arnold Schwarzenegger in - he just looks awkward and out of place in others. Here all he has to do is look mean, fire a gun, and spout off a tagline here and there.

I just have two random comments before I finish: did anyone else find it amusing that the guy in the gun store got shot? People buy guns for protection, but they didn't help him, did they? Second comment: what ever happened to Pugsley?
